Make Traveling & Adventuring Even More Fun!

We received the best gift for Christmas, and we are just now getting around to opening it and setting it up. It is a Scratch Off Map of both the world and a separate one of just the United States!

Having a map and making it clear where you have been in the world is amazing and fun! It makes you want to visit some place new that you have never been. It could also help plan your next trip, because you know exactly where you have not been!

I think this is a much easier idea than the Photo Frame Map. The scratch off method is easy and convenient, rather than having to find a photo that fits perfectly in the outline of a State. Not to mention, having to make sure we take a photo meant for the frame every time, then going to get it printed and mounting it in the picture frame.

We set our United States map up on a corkboard with cute little push pins, and I clipped a penny to the board for easy access. I made sure that the penny was made in the year that our relationship was established, I thought it made it seem more special. It is quick, easy and fun!

We have not scratched off all the places that we have been yet – I was just too excited to share the photo to wait! We have all of the Western States marked off on the United States map and some on the Eastern Coast. We chose to only scratch off the places we have been to TOGETHER and not on our own. We also made it a rule that we have had to stay there and not just flown in as a connecting flight, or drove through to get to somewhere else.

    Dinner & A Walk Through A Garden

Everyone knows that dinner and a movie is always a good go-to type of date. Covid-19 has made going to the movies a bit difficult, so we put a spin on dinner and movie and changed it to dinner and a walk through a garden!

Going for a walk after dinner together is a great way to deep dive into the conversations you were having during eating. It also makes it “golden hour” when you are exploring the garden.
We went to Freddy Burger’s and then to the Sego Lily Gardens. It was a perfect weekday date, because it didn’t take too long. It is not a hike that takes all day, it is just a nice leisurely walk!

If you can’t make it to a garden, you can take a walk around the neighborhood! It is a good year round type of date, because it’s great in the warm weather of summer and it’s beautiful looking at everyone’s holiday lights in the winter.

You can find out more about the Sego Lily Gardens in Sandy, Utah by looking at their website: http://sego-lily-gardens.edan.iohttp://sego-lily-gardens.edan.io

Get A Little Mud On Those Tires

This might not be for everyone but….Off roading is always a fun adventure date to go on!

Driving on dirt roads and getting mud everywhere is a day well spent. It beats sitting on the couch watching a movie! There are a million trails out there for all types of vehicles. Even if it is just a ride up the canyon to see the amazing views.

Yes, we have gotten my Jeep stuck before, and yes I have had to leave it on the side of a mountain over night and get some help pulling it off the mountain (that is a story for another time). But you can’t call yourself a Jeep owner if you have never gotten stuck before and everything turned out fine. It is something fun and adventurous that doesn’t cost much except for gas money, but if you went somewhere else you would be paying for gas plus what ever the activity is.

All I am saying is get out there and explore new territory, you will be surprised at the views and how fun off roading is!

    Ice Castles

Ice Castles has come a long way since they first started doing it. At the beginning it was small and not as exciting. Now they have ice slides, characters such as Disney’s Frozen Cast show up and there is so much more to see now! It is a little on the pricy side…but in the winter there isn’t much to do in the cold nights.

Ice Castles are in Heber, UT and they tend to get bigger and better every year. You walk through a huge maze like thing made of ice. EVERYWHERE you look and EVERYTHING you tough is ICE! It is way cool to walk through and super pretty to look at. It make for cute pictures, so I suggest going with a group or on a double date at least so you can take photos of each other.

When you buy tickets online they make you pick a time window of when you will be showing up. It helps them regulate how many people go in at a time. There are A LOT of people all over the place when you do get in. It is somewhat hard to get a photo without anyone in it, unless you wait in line at the “Photo Perfect Spots.”

Ice Castles is definitely something I would suggest people do as a winter date night, if you can bare the cold that is. Make sure to look into it this winter!

    My GO-TO Adventuring Shoes

It is no secret that I love a good adventure! Sometimes those adventures require a lot of walking and hiking, which I love to do as well. Ok…I have learned to love as well…

Above is a photo of me in Yellowstone at sunset, after a long day of walking and seeing the sights. These hiking shoes held up great!

Above is a photo of me at the top of Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park. I am in the same exact hiking boot. These are my GO-TO adventuring shorts as well, I love them and wear them almost everyday. They are great for any occasion!

I must say, these are not my first pair of adventuring shoes. When we backpacked Havasupai (read about that adventure on this blog real soon!) I literally walked the soles off of my shoes. Thank goodness they held up until the end of our trip though! That would have been a disaster trying to hike over 13 miles with no shoes…

Moral of the story, don’t go cheap on hiking boots. They are a very good investment! Even if you only hike once a year, and no matter the difficulty of the hike, having a good pair of shoes can make ALL the difference.

No one wants sore or beat up feet at the end of an adventure. That just ruins the whole experience. I will link the same boot that I am wearing here.

If you do choose these Keens, let me know what adventures you plan on having while wearing them. If you already have your trusty adventuring shoe, leave me a comment below on what brand it is!

    Keep Finding Adventure,
